Turkish bath
(Turkish: hamam)
The "Turkish bath" as a method of cleansing and relaxation became
popular during the Victorian era. The process involved in taking a Turkish bath
is similar to that of a sauna, but is more closely related to ancient Greek and
ancient Roman bathing practices.
Ottoman Turks inherited the Roman bath concept—architecture and tradition—as it
existed in Asia Minor. They adapted it to
Turkish tastes, and called it “hammam.” the public hammam is still a major part
of the Turkish culture, as much a place
about cleansing as it is about relaxing.
